Morristown is undertaking the removal of old below grade tree root balls. Work is expected to begin on or about August 31, 2023, weather permitting. Duration of project in Town will be around two weeks. Work will involve the removal of old below grade tree root balls, replacement of displaced soils, and the addition of hardwood mulch to grade in existing tree wells. Improvements will foster healthier tree plantings in the future.
Work, when it starts in front of your establishment, will be completed the same day with only a few hours of disturbance.
The project will include the following work:
- Removal of existing tree well mulch and below grade tree root balls.
- Replacement of displaced soil and mulch.
What to expect during construction:

- Working hours will be Monday – Friday, 7:30am – 3:30pm with select restrictions by location.
- On-street parking in and along the immediate work zone will be prohibited during construction and will be reinstated outside of working hours and in all cases for evenings and weekends.
- Contractor will be placing signs and or cones daily to reserve work locations in/along curb lines by tree wells to be worked on.
- Access to all businesses will be maintained at all times.
- Sidewalk areas within the work zone will remain open while work is ongoing.
- Access for emergency vehicles will be maintained at all times.
