The Making of Christmas Festival at the Morristown Green

Coming Soon to the Christmas Festival at the Morristown Green: A larger than life rocking horse!

First introduced to the Christmas festivities on the Morristown Green in 1949, the much-loved rocking horse has taken on many shapes and sizes over the years. At the time the Morristown Partnership took over Christmas on the Green in 2000 only one crumbing horse remained. Now, with the help of the Morris County School of Technology and Morristown businesses evolvInk & Accents on Knits we are recreating a new work of art for the years to come!

Thank you to Mr. Scott Weems, Teacher of Carpentry, and Mr. Eric Johnson, Teacher of Building & Grounds Maintenance, and their students at the Morris County School of Technology for your hard work on the newest addition to the Christmas Festival at the Morristown Green.

The rocking horse is in its final stages of painting design this week at evolvInk studios on Lackawanna Place then it is off to Accents on Knits on Market Street for its yarn mane!

WOW! Mike's side is complete!

Sara K.

Tattoo Artist

Art and design have always been apart of me. I am fortunate enough to be able to say that art IS a passion, for LIFE. It always will be. Super articulated line-work, fully realized juxtaposition within a design, and rich, saturated color is what I strive for, no matter the medium. Dynamic, illustrative images and beautiful, sweeping gestural structure. Traditional materials or tattoo ink, it does not matter the medium, I will put my all into the project at hand. Consistently striving to challenge myself through commissioned pieces. Clich? as it may sound, Art and Tattooing chose me, and I can't get enough of it.

Thanks Hope and Barry!

Owned and operated since 1998 by Hope and Barry Blazer, Accents On Knits has the largest selection of quality yarns in New Jersey.

2013 CHRISTMAS FESTIVAL AT THE MORRISTOWN GREEN: A Morristown Partnership annual community event.

The Christmas Festival at the Morristown Green, presented by Morristown Partnership, officially opens on Sunday, December 1 at 5:00pm and will light up the downtown well into the New Year. Activities continue on Saturdays and Sundays throughout the month of December through Sunday, the 22nd.

For the past 100 years, generations of residents and visitors have come to the heart of downtown Morristown to enjoy the magic of the Christmas season. It began in 1913 with a small group of festive volunteers lighting a single star atop one tree on the Morristown Green. Since that time, this tradition has spread holiday cheer to countless families with its addition of a Santa House, holiday crafts, entertainment and seasonal d?cor including stunning lamppost wreaths throughout town.

With growing enthusiasm from the community to upgrade the aesthetics of the Morristown Green and the Town during the holiday season, Morristown Partnership was pleased to take over the responsibility of this beloved tradition nearly thirteen years ago. Upon securing a grant to underwrite the cost of a major electrical overhaul of the Morristown Green itself, the Christmas Festival at the Morristown Green as we know it today was born.

Presented by the Morristown Partnership, 2013 Christmas Festival at the Morristown Green Premier & Title Sponsors are Century 21 Department Store, Morristown Medical Center, Hyatt Morristown, and The Star Ledger. Being that this event is entirely privately funded, we are wholeheartedly grateful to our event sponsors, participants in our Annual Appeal drive (look for info on how you can help on our website), many local businesses and organizations who provide in-kind support including the gifts found in Santa?s Goody Bags, and the individuals and organizations that provide activities & entertainment for all to enjoy free of charge. Christmas Festival at the Morristown Green is also made possible thanks to the valued and loyal sponsorship support of: Rosewood, The Education Association of Morris (T.E.A.M.), Morristown Columbian Club, Braunschweiger Jewelers and Kitchen Magic. The thousands of Santa?s Goody Bags that will be distributed to children are made possible thanks to generation donations from: Dr. Joseph Arvay, Morris Animal Inn, EvolvInk, Accents on Knits, Dels Novelty, Goryeb Childrens Hospital and Enjou Chocolate. A special thanks to the Morris County School of Technology for their time and expertise creating our latest addition of giant rocking horses.

Families and individuals that grew up in this community and have since lived in various places in the U.S. and abroad make it a point to contact the Morristown Partnership each year to get the schedule of activities that are to take place on the Morristown Green during the holiday season. For them and many others, Morristown is their destination of choice to celebrate the holiday traditions.

The beauty of our downtown, we hope, will entice people from near and far to shop, dine, visit and enjoy a wide variety of entertainment. We invite you to visit our website for full seasonal details as well as those of our friends including Mayo Performing Arts Center, Morris County Tourism Bureau, Morris County Park Commission, and First Night Morris.

Sends us your stories! With your permission, Morristown Partnership would love to post your memories on our website. Send us an email, mail a handwritten note or draw us a picture of your favorite memory and we'll share it here.
