Christmas Festival Memories

Waiting For Santa - December 1967 Bernardsville News (LEFT)

Katie Kirchiro, a five-year-old "angel" from Basking Ridge, waits with "Snowman on the Green" in Morristown for the arrival Saturday evening of Santa Claus. Santa will arrive atop the Park Square Building at 6:30 to visit area children as well as Katie. He will be assisted in his descent from the rooftop by the Morristown Fire Department

From Heather Carlin

My daughter Katie 5yr old back in the day. We lived in Basking Ridge and just like when Iwas 5 we took children to the green to see Santa land on Bambergers roof.

Added in 2013 : A larger than life rocking horse!

First introduced to the Christmas festivities on the Morristown Green in 1949, the much-loved rocking horse has taken on many shapes and sizes over the years. At the time the Morristown Partnership took over Christmas on the Green in 2000 only one crumbing horse remained. With the help of the Morris County School of Technology and Morristown businesses evolvInk & Accents on Knits we are recreating a new work of art for the years to come!

Thank you to Mr. Scott Weems, Teacher of Carpentry, and Mr. Eric Johnson, Teacher of Building & Grounds Maintenance, and their students at the Morris County School of Technology for your hard work on the newest addition to the Christmas Festival at the Morristown Green.

The rocking horse is in its final stages of painting design at evolvInk studios on Lackawanna Place.

2016 CHRISTMAS FESTIVAL AT THE MORRISTOWN GREEN:

a Morristown Partnership annual community event.

The Christmas Festival at the Morristown Green, presented by the Morristown Partnership, will kick off on Sunday, November 27th at 5:00pm and once again transform the downtown into a winter wonderland well into the New Year.  A full calendar of family friendly activities are scheduled on Saturdays and Sundays, with bonus weekday evenings, throughout the month of December ending on Friday, December 23rd.   Look for a detailed events schedule on our website and within our featured Holidays in Morristown section in the Sunday, November 20th issue of The Star Ledger.

For over 100 years, generations of residents and visitors have come to the heart of downtown Morristown to enjoy the magic of the Christmas season. It began in 1913 with a small group of festive volunteers lighting a single star atop one tree on the Morristown Green.  Since that time, this tradition has spread holiday cheer to countless families with its addition of a Santa House, holiday music and crafts, vintage-style oversized rocking horses, free rides around the Green on a miniature electric train and seasonal decor including thousands of dazzling lights and stunning lamppost wreaths throughout town.

Presented by the Morristown Partnership, the 2016 Christmas Festival at the Morristown Green is made possible thanks toPremier Sponsor, Morristown Medical Center as well as Title Sponsors, Hyatt Regency Morristown and The Star Ledger.  Additional event sponsors include: 40 North Restaurants, Jersey Central Power & Light, KSA Capital Management, Pinot?s Palette, Power Home Remodeling Group, Renewal by Andersen, Rosewood and The Education Association of Morris (T.E.A.M.).  We offer our sincere thanks to all our sponsors who support this time-honored Morristown tradition.

Being that this event is entirely privately funded, we are grateful to participants in our Annual Appeal drive and encourage you to look for how you can help on our website www.morristown-nj.org.  We are also appreciative of the many local businesses and organizations who provide in-kind support including the gifts found in Santa?s Goody Bags, and the individuals and organizations that provide activities & entertainment for all to enjoy free of charge.  In 2016, thousands of Santa?s Goody Bags will be distributed to children thanks to generous donations from:  Unique Belgique, the New York Jets and Century 21 Department Store.

The beauty of our downtown, we hope, will once again entice people from near and far to shop, dine, visit and enjoy a wide variety of entertainment. We invite you to visit our website www.morristown-nj.org for full seasonal details as well as those of our friends including Mayo Performing Arts Center, Morris County Tourism Bureau, Morris County Park Commission, and First Night Morris.

For additional information please contact Morristown Partnership, 14 Maple Avenue, Suite 201, Morristown, NJ 07960 at (973) 455-1133.

As we send out letters for our Annual Appeal, many donations come back with heartfelt stories of the memories made during the holiday season in Morristown.

Sends us your stories! With your permission, Morristown Partnership would love to post your memories on our website. Send us an email, mail a handwritten note or draw us a picture of your favorite memory and we'll share it here.
