Christmas Festival Memories

Waiting For Santa - December 1967 Bernardsville News (LEFT)

Katie Kirchiro, a five-year-old "angel" from Basking Ridge, waits with "Snowman on the Green" in Morristown for the arrival Saturday evening of Santa Claus. Santa will arrive atop the Park Square Building at 6:30 to visit area children as well as Katie. He will be assisted in his descent from the rooftop by the Morristown Fire Department

From Heather Carlin

My daughter Katie 5yr old back in the day. We lived in Basking Ridge and just like when Iwas 5 we took children to the green to see Santa land on Bambergers roof.

Added in 2013 : A larger than life rocking horse!

First introduced to the Christmas festivities on the Morristown Green in 1949, the much-loved rocking horse has taken on many shapes and sizes over the years. At the time the Morristown Partnership took over Christmas on the Green in 2000 only one crumbing horse remained. With the help of the Morris County School of Technology and Morristown businesses evolvInk & Accents on Knits we are recreating a new work of art for the years to come!

Thank you to Mr. Scott Weems, Teacher of Carpentry, and Mr. Eric Johnson, Teacher of Building & Grounds Maintenance, and their students at the Morris County School of Technology for your hard work on the newest addition to the Christmas Festival at the Morristown Green.

The rocking horse is in its final stages of painting design at evolvInk studios on Lackawanna Place.

2015 CHRISTMAS FESTIVAL AT THE MORRISTOWN GREEN: A Morristown Partnership annual community event.

The Christmas Festival at the Morristown Green, presented by Morristown Partnership, officially opens on Sunday, November 29 at 5:00pm and will light up the downtown well into the New Year.

For the past 102 years, generations of residents and visitors have come to the heart of downtown Morristown to enjoy the magic of the Christmas season. It began in 1913 with a small group of festive volunteers lighting a single star atop one tree on the Morristown Green. Since that time, this tradition has spread holiday cheer to countless families with its addition of a Santa House, holiday crafts, entertainment and seasonal decor including stunning lamppost wreaths throughout town and over 150,000 dazzling LED lights on The Morristown Green .

With growing enthusiasm from the constituency to upgrade the aesthetics of the Morristown Green and the Town during the holiday season, Morristown Partnership was pleased to inherit the responsibility of this beloved tradition nearly fourteen years ago. Upon securing a grant to underwrite the cost of a major electrical overhaul of the Morristown Green itself, the Christmas Festival at the Morristown Green as we know it today was born.

Families and individuals that grew up in this community and have since lived in various places in the U.S. and abroad make it a point to contact the Morristown Partnership each year to get the schedule of activities that are to take place on the Morristown Green during the holiday season. For them and many others, Morristown is their destination of choice to celebrate the holiday traditions.

The beauty of our downtown, we hope, will entice people from near and far to shop, dine, visit and enjoy a wide variety of entertainment. We invite you to visit our website www.morristown-nj.org for full seasonal details.
