Construction Advisory
The Highlands at Morristown Station development project, also known as Transit Village, will begin in Fall 2007. The Highlands project received development approval in 2005 for construction at the parking lot (known as "4D") on the northwesterly side of Lafayette Avenue here it intersects with Morris Street. This project, which is expected to take approximately 18 months, will begin construction on or about October 1, 2007.
The Highlands at Morristown Station development will include:
• 218 residential dwelling units.
• 8,000 square feet of retail space.
• A 724-space parking deck - 415 of the spaces are permanently dedicated to NJ TRANSIT commuters.
In addition to creating new residential and retail development, this project also results in a 38 percent increase in parking spaces compared to the capacity of the existing parking lot.
NJ TRANSIT has worked closely with its designated developer, Rosewood Lafayette Commons, LLC., to provide alternate parking during the construction of the new deck. To meet commuter parking needs, alternate parking will be located at the Headquarters Plaza parking deck, located at 3 Speedwell Avenue, Morristown, NJ 07960. Free shuttle bus service will be provided for NJ TRANSIT customers between the parking deck and Morristown Station on weekdays from 5:30 a.m. to 8:30 p.m. Existing parking rates will remain in effect for NJ TRANSIT customers who park at the Headquarters Plaza parking deck.
NJ TRANSIT understands that this project will be a temporary inconvenience to our customers and asks for your patience during this period. Upon completion, 415 new weather-protected spaces will be located immediately adjacent to the station platform. Specific parking instructions and further details regarding this project will be provided in the upcoming weeks. If you have any questions, please contact NJ TRANSIT at1 (800) 772-2222.
